What is Olaplex?

Olaplex is a hair care treatment system which actually re-builds broken bonds in the hair, returning your hair to the lustrous, full and healthy hair you were born with. When using Olaplex, all thermal, mechanical and chemical damage is reversed and broken ends are fixed. Olaplex works on a molecular level to ensure that your hair is ‘fixed’ from the inside which makes it look (and feel) incredible. Olaplex is formulated with a patented bond-building chemistry to strengthen hair, hydrate, boost shine and reduce frizz. It is free from sulphates, parabens, gluten and is also vegan-friendly. The good news for our lovely curly clients is that Olaplex is also curly girl method-friendly! This ground-breaking technology can be applied while colouring right at the foil stage to allow the achievement of lighter blondes without breakage. It protects the hair bonds and so removes the risk of damaging the hair which colourists previously feared with dramatic chemical colour changes!

How Does Olaplex Work?

If you have had lots of chemical treatments over the years or haven’t looked after your hair quite as well as you could have, the result could be frizzy, difficult to manage and dry hair. Olaplex works differently than other conditioning treatments… in fact it doesn’t even use the over-used phrase ‘conditioning treatment’. All too often ‘conditioning treatments’ merely coat the hair strands with a silicone coating which is like putting a fake plastic seal on the hair. It doesn’t actually mend or fix the problem. Olaplex nourishes each individual hair strand and permanently rebuilds the damaged disulphide bonds in your hair that are broken during chemical processes. It’s like ‘resetting’ your hair after years of damage – giving your hair a new lease of life and rebuilding the strength, structure and integrity of your hair. THE Five Stages of Olaplex

The first two steps of the Olaplex treatment system must happen in an Olaplex-approved salon. David & David is one of only 3 hair salons in Plymouth who are qualified to use this revolutionary hair treatment system, and we are fully-trained to professionally deliver the Olaplex technology to lovely clients looking to improve their hair health. Here are the five stages of Olaplex in a nutshell…

 

1) Olaplex Number 1:

The first stage is the Olaplex bond multiplier which can be used as a stand-alone treatment or mixed with colour and put straight onto your hair in the foils. This concentrated first salon step rebuilds broken disulfide bonds and begins the process of preventing damage and repairing hair.

2) Olaplex Number 2:

After number 1, the bond perfector is then put on after the colour is rinsed out. Number 2 is left on for 10-15 minutes to really allow it the time to work its magic and fix all of those broken bonds resulting in the strongest, shiniest, and healthiest hair possible.

3) Olaplex Number 3:

The third stage is done at home- the hair perfector is a take-home treatment which is recommended to use once a week. Number 3 is best applied prior to your shampoo and conditioner and left on for 10 minutes at the very least (but up to 30 minutes if you can!). The longer you can leave it the better (Kim Kardashian swears by sleeping in hers overnight).

4) Olaplex Number 4:

The Olaplex bond maintenance shampoo can replace your regular shampoo and will help to hydrate, strengthen and topping up your hair care at every wash. Designed for all hair types, Olaplex shampoo is formulated without sulfates and parabens and is colour safe. Thanks to the coconut-oil derived surfactant in the shampoo, it’s super bubbly and a little goes a long way.

5) Olaplex Number 5:

There is also a bond maintenance conditioner which is the final step in your Olaplex hair care treatment. It can be left on for up to three minutes before rinsing and enjoying the hydrated smooth hair you’ve always dreamed of.
